The use of ozone to disinfect water has been given the thumbs up according to NIAA 1997. Since that time modern technology has produced efficient cost effective ozone generating equipment.
Ozone Industries has developed an effective method of dissolving ozone in water to kill pathogens so that clean water irrigation of young plants is an economic alternative to using chemicals that can add to problems in the nursery. It also has the added benefit of reducing pesticide and herbicide residues, ozone leaves no residues.
Matching flow rate and daily consumption to the correct sized oxygen fed ozone generator is a matter of calculations. Ideally the storage system would allow time for the dissolved ozone level to drop below plant phototoxic levels before use.
The added benefit of using ozone instead of chemicals really comes into its own when the water is eventually dumped. The water table will be unaffected by hazardous material because ozone leaves no residue to harm the environment meeting NIASA safe water disposal requirements.
